New look Rabbit Run takes over Merthyr Mawr

Thousands of runners took to the trails last weekend for the biggest ever Rabbit Run Wales.

Almost 2,000 participants signed up to take part in the junior races, original 12K route and new 40K distance.

It was smiles all round as the sun shone down on the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr estate – the beautiful setting for the day’s events.

Runners ran through the estate’s grassy fields, enchanting woodlands and sandy dunes – including a tumble down the Big Dipper – the highest sand dune in Wales.

They then passed through the picturesque Merthyr Mawr village before running over the Ewenny River, past Ogmore Castle and through the river towards the finish line.

Those on the 40K took in all the 12K course had to offer as well as the stunning scenery of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast with its plunging cliffs and breathtaking views.

Crossing the finish line each participant was awarded with an FSC approved wooden finishers medal and then had the chance to relax for the rest of the afternoon, soaking up the atmosphere in the event village.

The race was organised by Run 4 Wales in conjunction with the Merthyr Mawr Estate.

Steve Brace, Race Director at Run 4 Wales, said: “It was a fantastic day for the 2025 Rabbit Run Wales which returned to the Merthyr Mawr Estate with a new look and a new 40K distance.

“It was wonderful to see how much this beloved event has grown in recent years and we’re excited to see what the future holds as we continue to evolve and develop this event to offer something for everyone.

“A huge thank you to the Merthyr Mawr Estate for once again allowing us to host this event on its grounds, as well as to all of our volunteers giving up their time, whom without this just wouldn’t be possible.”

Entries are now open for the Rabbit Run Wales 2026 taking place on Saturday 18 July. A £5 early bird discount is available for the first 500 people to sign up to the 12K distance, however these are expected to sell out fast.

Junior race entries are also live.

The 40K race registration will open later this year, alongside some exciting new event developments.
