Hit the trails in Wales
If you’re looking to escape the city roads and take your runs into nature, look no further than Wales – a trail running paradise.
From mountain climbs and rugged coastlines to rolling fields and woodland paths, the country has something for every kind of runner whether technical scrambles are your speciality or you’re wanting something faster.
If this sounds appealing the R4W Group (Run 4 Wales and Always Aim High Events) have got you covered.

Alongside the original 12K route, the 2026 event on Saturday 18 July is turning things up a notch with the addition of two new distances. The popular 40K course which was added into the mix last year, has now been extended to a full marathon distance (42.2K) – and on top of that a new 65K route has been added too.
Both the Rabbit Marathon and Rabbit Ultra include everything the much-loved 12K distance has to offer by running on the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr estate as well as the famous river crossing and tumble down the Big Dipper – the highest sand dune in Wales. However, the longer distances will also see runners venture along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, taking in the area’s dramatic cliffs, secluded coves and picturesque villages.

Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri
The original Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri explores the incredible trails, panoramic views and tough climbs that make Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park a favourite among those who love the outdoors. Taking place on 11-12 July, the weekend event doesn’t just offer a marathon distance as there is also a 10K, half marathon, ultra marathon and even a 24-hour race for people of all abilities to sink their teeth into.
Taking in the highest mountain in Wales, it certainly is one of the UK’s most challenging trail races, but it will all be worth it for the views.

Offering 40K, 25K and 15K races Ogwen’s Yr Helgi Du (The Black Hound) on Sunday 12 April covers some of the highest mountains in England and Wales. Including epic trails and technical terrain this epic skyline race will test those who are experienced in trail running, while also providing enough support to those who are looking to take their mountain running to the next level.

Anglesey Trail Half Marathon & 10K
Taking place on Sunday 1 November, the Anglesey Trail Half Marathon and 10K is set in the stunning surroundings of Newborough Forest and Traeth Llannddwyn. Featuring winding woodland, forest track as well as sandy trails runners will catch glimpses of the Llyn Peninsula and the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), it’s no wonder that this beautiful course once hosted the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Running Championships.
