Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund helps make impact across Wales

The Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund has continued to help make impact to sustainability projects and initiatives across Wales.

Since the fund was established in 2022 it has donated more than £47,000 to green initiatives and sustainable development projects.

Last year Tir Natur and Keep Wales Tidy received donations from the Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund.

They were each awarded £4,500 to assist with upcoming projects with impact already being made for both organisations.

Tir Natur

The donation played an essential role in helping Tir Natur secure a flagship rewilding site for Wales – a 1,195-acre site spanning parts of the Doethïe Valley in the heart of Ceredigion’s magnificent Elenydd (Cambrian Mountains).

The land lies within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and includes rare upland heath, peatbog and pockets of ancient oak woodland.

There are currently no known landscape-scale rewilding sites in Wales that demonstrate what rewilding can offer, or provide hope at a time of accelerating biodiversity loss. Securing this land is therefore a milestone moment for nature recovery in Wales.

Tir Natur is now beginning its restoration work, focussed on nature recovery, community involvement and support from rural livelihoods. While Welsh mountain ponies are already on site, in time hardy breeds of cattle and pigs will also be introduced.

Tir Natur Chair, Tash Reilly, said: “We are so grateful for Run 4 Wales’ support in helping us secure a flagship rewilding site for Wales. This project is part of the urgent response needed to restore nature – it is a national statement of intent, showing how Wales can lead in rewilding at scale while supporting rural livelihoods and local communities. At a time when nature loss and climate impacts are accelerating, this site will demonstrate what’s possible when we allow nature to take the lead and work for people again.”

Keep Wales Tidy

Donations from the Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund has enabled Keep Wales Tidy to create resources and guidance for schools and communities who want to grow their own food and create local biodiversity habitats.

It is hoped this support will reduce carbon emissions, promote biodiversity, increase resilience to climate change and promote sustainable practises all while improving health and wellbeing through providing fresh food and time spent outdoors.

The charity has now created guides, videos and a growing calendar to share with schools and across socials to help get people growing their own plants and vegetables.

Bryony Bromley, Education Manager at Keep Wales Tidy, said: “The demand we’ve seen for easy practical guidance on food growing highlights a real desire within our schools and communities to connect with nature, cultivate produce, boost biodiversity and learn valuable skills.

“Thanks to Run 4 Wales, we were able to create a range of exciting resources, including videos and a growing calendar, which are targeted at beginner gardeners to gain confidence and learn the basics of growing delicious food and engaging with nature all year round.  The resources tie in with school calendar, so that learners can grow, nurture and enjoy their produce before the summer break. The project will be a real game changer in building knowledge and confidence, and we’re excited to now share these resources with schools across Wales.”

Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund

The Climate Action Fund is made up of donations from Run 4 Wales’ events as well as contributions from event organisers, participants and event partners. Those who opt out of receiving a finishers t-shirt also see the monetary value contributed to the fund.

Gareth Ludkin, Head of Sustainability at Run 4 Wales, said: “The Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund was created to ensure that the positive impact of our events extends far beyond the finish line. We’re proud to have been able to support two inspiring organisations in 2025 – Tir Natur and Keep Wales Tidy – whose projects are delivering meaningful climate action within communities across Wales.

“From restoring and enhancing local habitats to empowering communities to take practical environmental action, these initiatives reflect exactly what the fund was designed to achieve.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our participants and partners whose support enables us to reinvest in projects like these and continue driving positive change through the power of mass participation events.”
