Boost charity fundraising with the Run 4 Wales 10K Series

Charities have the chance to boost their fundraising donations by getting involved with the Run 4 Wales 10K Series.

The series includes some of the biggest and best 10K races in Wales including the Barry Island 10K in June, the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K in July and the Brecon Carreg CDF 10K in September, and by recruiting runners to fundraise throughout the events, it allows even more opportunity for people to donate to their challenge.

More than 15,000 runners have already signed up to take part across the series and with entries still open, many more are expected to be at the start lines.

Charity packages with Run 4 Wales are available across all of its events. The Cardiff Half Marathon raises more than £4 million each year for its charities and thousands more is raised across its 10K events.

Fundraising platform Enthuse has even seen a 35% increase in page value for 10K events from 2023 to 2024, with fundraisers now raising £566 on average.

Deborah Powell, Director at event organisers Run 4 Wales, said: “Our races attract runners from across the UK and beyond and we’re seeing participation numbers increase each year.

“For many, when an event sells out the only way to get involved is by supporting a good cause. Thousands of participants and spectators attend each year and more than 30% of the field choose to run for charity.”

While charity fundraising places are limited, the good news is that charities who decide to come on board don’t need to go it alone. They each have assistance from a dedicated account manager to get them up and running and help them achieve their goals.

Many charities get involved year after year, including Cancer Research Wales – an associate charity partner at the Cardiff Half Marathon and lead charity at the Barry Island 10K.

Nic Clarke, Fundraising Events Manager at Cancer Research Wales said: “Our runners take part in 10K Series events for Cancer Research Wales because they believe in our mission to unite Wales against cancer, and we believe in our runners. Our runners also experience this unifying effect with the people who sponsor them because they also believe in Cancer Research Wales’ work.

“Our runners tell us they enjoy being part of the 10K Series and many have signed up to run in more than one event, including the Barry Island 10K, for which we are very pleased to be the headline charity partner. This not only gives our runners the extra challenge of taking part in more than one event, but their fundraising increases as they complete each of the races in the series.

“As a runner myself, I know what goes through people’s minds before, during and after a run, so having the opportunity to meet with them face-to-face as they prepare to race in the 10K Series and offer a supportive and appreciative word or a bottle of water, is absolutely priceless.”

Tŷ Hafan is also involved across Run 4 Wales’ portfolio of events and is lead charity at the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K.

James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising at Tŷ Hafan, said: “Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice really enjoy working in partnership with Run 4 Wales who deliver some of the most exciting and memorable running events in the country. The high-quality event delivery and excellent account management means that we can focus on giving our fundraisers the best experience possible in the hope that they will continue to support our cause long into the future.

“The geographical spread of the 10K series also helps us talk about our work to a much broader audience which is another important factor for us. We can’t wait to meet our team of fundraisers at the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K which is set to be one of the most exciting running events in the calendar.”
