Entries now open for Rabbit Run Wales

Keen trail runners can now sign up for the Rabbit Run Wales race.

Set on the South Wales coast in the heart of Merthyr Mawr, the 12K trail event will take place on Saturday 20 July 2024.

Runners will get to experience a varied mix of terrain including muddy woodland paths, stony tracks, sand dunes – including the Big Dipper which is the highest in Wales – and footpaths.

They’ll even get to enjoy splashing their way through the Ewenny River and cross the stepping stones by Ewenny Castle.

Early bird entries are now live, allowing participants to save 16% on the cost of general entry. However, runners will have to hop to it if they want to save as the offer expires on Easter Monday.

The event, named The Rabbit Run due to the course resembling the outline of a bunny, was set up by Run 4 Wales Race Director and double Olympic marathoner, Steve Brace, in 2016.

This year will be the 8th edition of the race with Run 4 Wales now working in partnership with the Merthyr Mawr Estate and Bridgend Athletics to deliver this popular event.

Steve said: “The Rabbit Run race, taking in the area’s hills, valleys and woodland, is such a fun-filled event and is becoming increasingly popular year after year.

“There’s a lot of excitement for those taking part with highlights including spotting wildlife in the Merthyr Mawr Warren Nature Reserve, heading into the dunes and seeing the sea from the top of the Big Dipper – the highest sand dune in Wales, running through the river and popping out of the secret tunnel in the Merthyr Mawr estate before the finish line.

“It’s a great day out for the whole family and we’re also looking forward to some new additions to the event for 2024, including the Beer Mile Trail Championships.”

For the first time the Beer Mile Trail Championships, organised by Bridgend #DrinkNStride, will be held at the event.

Junior races will also be available for younger participants to take part in, including a 2K Bunny Family Fun Run, 4K Double Bunny Run and 100m Toddler Dash. The Early Bird Entry offer allows runners to save £4 versus the cost of general entry.
