Introducing Our 2026 Featured Club: Pontyclun Road Runners

In February, we announced our first ever Featured Club, with the 2026 edition being awarded to Pontyclun Road Runners!

As a Welsh Athletics affiliated club, as well as a social club, Pontyclun Road Runners were our choice as featured club because of their members inspiring words. It’s commitment to inclusivity, making running more accessible and transforming the community around Pontyclun is inspiring to hear.

At R4W, we are dedicated to showing support to all run clubs where possible – social and affiliated, as both play a heavy part in the running community.

PRR will be gifted 10x complimentary race spots to each of our 2026 events, including the Cardiff Half Marathon as well as some amazing other benefits, including photoshoots/interviews at each of our events.

In their own words, here is what they had to say:

“PRR is absolutely thrilled to receive the inaugural R4W Featured Club award 🏆. Thank you for recognising our wonderfully mismatched, mud-splattered, all-abilities running family!

Based in Pontyclun, we host regular runs of all types, distances, and terrain. From gentle Wednesday Wombles and track sessions to our biannual naked mile (don’t ask) and “surprise, it’s basically a mountain 🏔️” Sunday trails, every run is welcoming, supportive, and occasionally chaotic in the best possible way.

Inclusivity sits at the heart of everything we do. Whether someone is tackling their first 5K, storming through the Cardiff Half, or bravely signing up for the Gower Ultra because their friend said, “It’ll be fun, trust me”, there’s always space for them at PRR.

We’ve cheered runners over finish lines, through rainstorms, across bogs, away from animals 🐂, and sometimes out of our local curry house when the social run turned a bit too… social.

We’re proud to celebrate achievements at every level. Some of our runners have earned championship London Marathon good for age status and have been invited to participate in age grade championships as well as representing Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢.These successes show that PRR truly caters for everyone, from those chasing personal bests to those simply enjoying the journey.

Our calendar is full of events where running ability matters far less than enthusiasm, curry nights, afternoon teas, skittle nights 🎳, the PRR Summer BBQ, and legendary Christmas parties 🕺 where the only rule is what happens on the dance floor gets posted to social media.

Beyond running, PRR is deeply committed to supporting our local community, organising charity donations, volunteering for Parkrun takeovers, and providing race support and pacers for local races, ensuring a lasting impact in Pontyclun and beyond.

This award celebrates exactly what we try to build every day: a community that welcomes everyone and makes them feel right at home. We’ll display this award proudly… right next to the biscuits we definitely earned.”

Annabelle Mason, Head of Partnerships at Run 4 Wales said:

“We’re just delighted to recognise affiliated run clubs and give them some love. There has been a sharp rise in social run groups across the country and, while they do an amazing job, it is quite common for the more traditional clubs to feel ‘left out’, when they probably paved the way for the younger ones to come through. We want to show our love to both of them, as they, as a collective, make our events what they are.

We look forward to welcoming PRR to our events in 2026 and gifting them 10x complimentary entries for each was an absolute pleasure.”
